How to Convert HEIC to PNG on iPhone (3 Methods)
Need to convert iPhone photos from HEIC to PNG? Whether you're trying to upload to a site that doesn't accept HEIC or need a universally compatible format, here are three methods that work right on your iPhone.
Method 1: Use HEICtoPNG in Safari (Recommended)
- Open HEICtoPNG.com in Safari on your iPhone
- Tap the upload area and select Photo Library
- Choose one or more HEIC photos from your camera roll
- The converter processes them instantly in your browser
- Tap Download to save the PNG to your Files app
Why this works best: No app to install, completely private (files stay on your device), and you get actual PNG output — not JPEG like most auto-conversion methods.
Method 2: Change Camera Settings to Avoid HEIC
Prevent HEIC files from being created in the first place:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap Camera
- Tap Formats
- Select Most Compatible
Note: This changes your camera to save as JPEG, not PNG. For PNG specifically, you still need to convert. Also, HEIC files are about 50% smaller, so switching to "Most Compatible" will use more storage.
Method 3: Use the Shortcuts App
- Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone
- Tap + to create a new shortcut
- Add these actions: Get Images from Input → Convert Image (to PNG) → Save to Photo Album
- Name it "Convert to PNG" and add it to your Share Sheet
- Now you can select any photo, tap Share → Convert to PNG
Best for: Frequent conversions without opening a browser. Takes a few minutes to set up but saves time long-term.
